Barca Captains 'To Take Pay Cut' To Help Messi Return

Barca Captains 'To Take Pay Cut' To Help Messi Return

Two of Barcelona's captains are keen on having Lionel Messi back at the club and are willing to take pay cuts to make it happen.

Two of Barcelona's captains are reportedly willing to take a drastic pay cut in order to facilitate club icon Lionel Messi's return to the Camp Nou.

Rashford 'Decides' Man Utd Future

Earlier this month, Messi's agent and father, Jorge, stated that a return to Catalonia was unlikely for the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner. However, in recent days, it seems that stance may have softened.

Multiple reports have emerged claiming that the 35-year-old may not be keen to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, opening up the possibility of a potential return to the five-time European champions.

According to transfer insider Gerard Romero, Joan Laporta and Messi's father have held talks over a potential deal for the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner.

The Spanish transfer expert claims that there have so far been two elements to this: talks between Laporta and the player's representative, as well as a meeting between manager Xavi Hernandez and the forward himself.

The former teammates were said have met shortly before the 2022 FIFA World Cup's commencement late last year, but it may be two of Messi's other ex-teammates who could be key to a mooted return.

The same report suggests that both Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets would be willing to take drastic wage cuts if it meant having the Rosario native return.

The Spanish duo are prominent figures at the club and are among its highest earners, but with both nearing the end of their current deals with the Blaugrana, it appears they are willing to make significant sacrifices in an attempt to share the dressing room with Messi one last time.

Neymar 'Decides' PSG Future Amid Messi Exit Rumours

The Argentine's future is still unclear, and a number of clubs are believed to be interested in the four-time UEFA Champions League winner's services, with teams as far afield as Saudi Arabia and the United States of America keen on the diminutive playmaker.
