Despite the former Atletico Madrid forward's undoubted talent and high profile, Messi, along with a few other first-team Barca stars, was said to be disappointed about his arrival due to the way he rejected the Catalan giants in 2018.
The Argentine and some of his colleagues were also reportedly desperate to see Neymar return, something that was made difficult by the money the Blaugrana spent on Griezmann.
The France star and Messi have not spent much time on the pitch together thus far due to the 32-year-old's fitness issues in the beginning of the campaign, but Griezmann has now insisted they are headed "in the right direction".

"He (Messi) is not someone who talks a lot, and neither am I. It's difficult," he said, according to the Daily Express.
"I have already given him some mate (tea), and we are going in the right direction.
"But he has been injured a lot, so it is difficult to make this connection, to improve it.
"We are two good guys, nice people, and I'm here to help anyone on the team."
