Many believe Cristiano Ronaldo will take home the prize after winning the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid and the 2016 European Championship with Portugal.
However, there are a few former players, among quite a few others, who are backing Messi for the accolade, including the 29-year-old's former Blaugrana teammate Ronaldinho and retired French international Thierry Henry.
