The 27-year-old departs United after making just 62 appearances over the course of his five-year stay on the club's books.
Van de Beek signed for the 20-time English champions from Ajax Amsterdam in 2020 for €39 million (R762.7 million), but failed to make an impression in the Premier League.
Injuries and sub-par performances in red have seen United loan him out on two occasions – to Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt, although his latest move is a permanent one.
Girona enjoyed a fruitful 2023/24 campaign as they qualified for the coming season's UEFA Champions League campaign following their third-place finish in LALIGA.
The deal will see the Spanish side pay a fixed €500 000 (R9.7 million) for his signature. However, it is reported United could receive up to €15 million (R293.3 million) in potential add-ons.
