Manchester United are understood to be closing in on their first big signing of the transfer window, with Donny Van de Beek believed to be on the verge of joining the Red Devils, and their next target has now reportedly been identified.
United have been heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho for most of this transfer window, but now seem to be pushing along with other targets.
Should he join, Van de Beek will add depth to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's midfield, and according to ESPN, their next big-name target will be brought in to bolster their defence.
RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano is said to be that man, and it is claimed the Red Devils are looking to complete the deal in this window.
Upamecano impressed for the German side last season, and recently signed a contract extension with the club after his initial deal was set to expire in June 2023.
The new contract is said to have a €42 million (R856 million) release clause that can only be activated at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
However, United are said to be confident a deal for the Frenchman can be negotiated before the current transfer window closes on 5 October.
The English giants are looking for defensive reinforcements, with it being said that there are concerns regarding Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe, while they also want strong competition for Victor Lindelof.
They are also understood to be looking to ship Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones out in this window.
