Man Utd 'Choose' New Manager

Manchester United have reportedly identified their top target to be their next manager.

Manchester United have reportedly chosen their No. 1 target to replace manager Erik ten Hag at the end of the season.

It has not been the best of campaigns for the Red Devils in the 2024/24 season. The Mancunian side has accumulated the most losses in a league season of theirs in the Premier League era, they were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League at the group stage, and failed to make it past the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

These factors have culminated in massive doubt being cast over Ten Hag's job security.

Speculation has thus grown regarding the Dutchman's potential successor, and according to Foot Mercato, the club's new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his chiefs have identified England head coach Gareth Southgate as the man who can lead the record English champions forward.

Not long after it became evident that United were trying to lure Dan Ashworth to Old Trafford to become the club's new sporting director, rumours started bubbling suggesting that the ex-central defender could become the new manager for the Premier League giants, with Ashworth and Southgate having worked together at the Football Association.

The same report claims that Ratcliffe is a fan of the Three Lions boss and is expecting talks over a contract to go smoothly as the two parties look to come to an agreement in the near future, with England preparing to travel to Germany to take part in the 2024 UEFA European Championship next month.

It is also claimed an official announcement regarding his appointment could be made after the tournament's conclusion, a competition Southgate's charges are expected to go far in.

Southgate has not managed a club since he was in charge of Middlesbrough between 2006 and 2009.
