It was a day to forget for Manchester United, who suffered a humiliating 6-1 defeat to Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer went with the tried and tested after resting players during the week although Eric Bailly kept his spot ahead of Victor Lindelof.

An extraordinary start saw United awarded a penalty after 20 seconds when Davidson Sanchez brought down Anthony Martial, which allowed Bruno Fernandes slot home with ease from 12 yards.

Spurs hit back straight away as Harry Maguire's poor led to the ball falling kindly to Tanguy Ndombele, who blasted home from close range on four minutes.

The visitors then took the lead minutes later when quick thinking from Harry Kane played in Son, who got past Bailly to fire past David de Gea.

The game was played at a high tempo but it got worse for the Red Devils on 28 minutes when Martial was shown a straight red card for an off-the-ball incident with Erik Lamela.

Spurs took advantage a minute later when Son turned provider to pick out Kane, who slotted into the bottom corner after poor pass from Bailly in the 18-yard area.

Son managed to add a fourth goal eight minutes before the break with a neat finish at the near post off Serge Aurier's cross.

Spurs showed no signs of slowing down in the second half as Aurier managed to get the fifth goal with a low finish into the bottom corner

Despite being four goals behind, Solskjaer introduced Donny van de Beek for the final 20 minutes while Spurs threw on Dele Alli and Ben Davies.

The visitors were awarded a penalty in the 78th minute after Davies was brought down under the challenge of Pogba, which saw Kane step up to convert his second of the game.
