New Man Utd Boss After Draw: My Players Were Afraid

Ruben Amorim has given assessment of his players' first half performance against Ipswich Town.

New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has made a damning assessment of his players' performance during his first match in charge.

The Portuguese tactician was unable to get his United managerial career off to a winning start after the Red Devils managed only a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town's Portman Road Stadium.

Marcus Rashford's second-minute opener was cancelled out by Omari Hutchinson's 43rd-minute strike, as the Mancunians are now winless in their last four consecutive away matches in the league.

After the match, Amorim critiqued his charges, claiming they seemed afraid against the Tractor Boys.

"If you see the first half, you can see that they are a little bit afraid," the 39-year-old told the media, as per Goal.

"[Morsy] was always alone. We have to jump on him. Hutchinson was always in the dead space, Jonny Evans should be pressing his guy but when we don't have training and it's hard to say all the reactions to the players, we had two days so they are confused a little bit.

"We have to look at the data, understand the data and look at that. First, we have to understand the game, we have to be so much better physically to cope with the high pressure, the volume of the high-speed running, all these things but we need time to work on these things."

The Lisbon native did, however, lament the lack of time he had with his players after the international break.

He added: "My players were thinking too much in the game. We had just two days altogether, we need more. They leave us one against one and we have to use those moments."
