Paris Saint-Germain got back to winning ways and extended their lead at the top of Ligue 1 after thrashing Lorient 4-1 on Wednesday evening.

Ligue 1

Result: Lorient 1-4 Paris Saint-Germain

Date: 24 April 2024

Venue: Stade du Moustoir

PSG made nine changes to the side that thrashed Olympique Lyonnais, as only goalkeeper Guinluigi Donnarumma and Gonçalo Ramos, who was joined by Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele, remained.

The Parisians took time to get into their stride but once they got going after 20 minutes, Dembele put them ahead with a strike into the bottom corner from a solo effort, where he glided past a couple of challenges.

Lorient did not have time to regroup, as two minutes later Kylian Mbappe made it 2-0 for Luis Enrique's charges with a flicked shot in the box after connecting with Nuno Mendes.

The visitors gained more control of the game as they held on to possession for longer periods and did not give Lorient any sniff at goal, as they went to the half-time interval with a comfortable lead.

PSG were on the front foot coming from the break and Dembele made it 3-0 and completed his brace on the hour-mark with a tap-in at the back post from a cross by Kylian Mbappe.

Enrique could rest some players after that as Ramos was replaced by Randal Kolo Muani and Nordi Mukiele came on for Lucas Hernandez.

As the pace of the game slowed down, Lorient gave themselves hope on 73 minutes after Mohamed Bamba pulled a goal back with a strong header from a cross by Benjamin Mendy.

The home side were fired up as moments later Panos Katseris came close to getting the second goal back with a powerful shot saved in the bottom corner by Donnarumma.

With Lorient coming hard at PSG, Kylian Mbappe eventually put the result beyond doubt and also got his double towards the end with a curling shot after a drive into the box.
