Having been overlooked for the France job, Zinedine Zidane could reportedly be in line for a stunning return to Real Madrid for a third spell.
FFF President Apologises To Zidane After Mbappe Backlash
According to Spanish publication Sport, the Frenchman has been given the opportunity to return to the 14-time UEFA Champions League winners should he want the position again in the near future.
It is claimed that president Florentino Perez would welcome Zidane back with open arms should Carlo Ancelotti end the campaign without a significant trophy.
The report suggests the Italian would not see out the final year of his contract in the Santiago Bernabeu dugout if he fails to secure silverware this season, with Zidane now seemingly the favourite to replace him in the hot seat.
It was previously believed that the legendary Frenchman was waiting for the chance to take over Les Blues from Didier Deschamps prior to the French Football Federation's (FFF) decision to tie the 54-year-old to a new deal.
Deschamps will now be in charge of France until at least the next FIFA World Cup in 2026, meaning it is unlikely the position will open up for Zidane any time soon, particularly after Noel Le Graet's recent remarks about him.
The FFF president caused a stir on Sunday when he said in an interview that he would not answer his phone if he received a call from the ex-Los Blancos head coach, comments for which he later apologised following backlash.
Zidane has previously served as Real's head coach twice over two spells, winning an incredible 11 trophies, including three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles.
