Four minutes later, Girona took the lead after a sublime passing move concluded with Portu back-heeling the ball into the net from close range, 2-1.
Los Blancos threw numbers forward in search of an equaliser after going behind, but they struggled to break down the Girona defence.
In the 83rd minute Lucas Vazquez thought he had drawn the visitors level when he found the back of the net, but his goal was disallowed due to him being in an off-side position.
