Reports suggest that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is already looking to purchase a new club, this time in Spain.
Abramovich has been sanctioned by the United Kingdom's government following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and as a result, the Russian-Israeli billionaire has declared that Chelsea is up for sale.
It seems that saga could be nearing its conclusion, though, with news outlets reporting that the oligarch is now ready to procure another club, Spanish side Valencia.
The LaLiga club's current owner Peter Lim is understood to be struggling to keep Los Che afloat, with the team plummeting into financial ruin under his leadership and having gone from being European competition regulars to a mid-table club in the Spanish top flight.
Multiple star players have also been sold without being replaced over the past 18 months.
Abramovich's interest in the Spanish side was seemingly revealed by rival bidder Miguel Zorio.
"Peter Lim has tried to sell the club in London for €250 million and has not succeeded," Zorio said, according to Plaza Deportivo.
"Lately, he has leaked to international media that he has two purchase offers, mine and that of the Russian oligarch of Chelsea.
"And from here, I tell him that either he puts €50 million every year to compensate for the losses he generates or he sells to us. Whether he likes it or not."
Valencia reached the UEFA Champions League finals in 2000 and 2001, before winning the LaLiga title in both 2002 and 2004.
Having recorded successive top four finishes in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons, they have fallen in recent years and finished 13th in the Spanish top flight last season.
