Reports suggest that one of Barcelona's soon-to-be out-of-contract players has rejected the club's final offer of a contract extension.
Neymar Responds To PSG Exit Rumours
According to AS, Ousmane Dembele has turned down the Blaugrana's final offer to extend his five-year stay at the Camp Nou.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner's current deal in Catalonia is set to expire at the end of June this year, and after months of trying to convince the Frenchman to put pen to paper on a new contract, it seems Barca's chiefs have been unsuccessful.
The same report suggests that the two-time LaLiga winner has already packed up the things in his Spanish home, with the house already back on the market.
The five-time European champions had initially issued the winger with an ultimatum to sign a new contract or leave the club in January, but were unable to get him out the door.
The France international was then reintegrated into the fold by manager Xavi Hernandez, and proved pivotal to the club's strong resurgence in the second half of the season.
However, it appears that neither the arrival of his friend Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang nor the constant praise from his head coach have been enough to convince the former Stade Rennes man to prolong his tenure in Spain.
Due to Barca's precarious financial situation, they are unable to offer the wages the 24-year-old and his representatives have reportedly been demanding.
Instead, it now looks like Dembele will return to Ligue 1, with Paris Saint-Germain said to be his preferred destination.
PSG star Kylian Mbappe is said to be a massive admirer of his compatriot, and would like for him to make up an attacking trident including himself and Lionel Messi at the Parc des Princes.
Having been hailed as the heir to Neymar's throne at Barca, Dembele has failed to deliver on those expectations since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund, largely due to a swathe of injuries.
This season, the forward has exhibited glimpses of the €140 million (R2.3 billion) transfer fee he commanded in 2017 as he was involved in 14 goals in 21 LaLiga games, his highest tally during his time in the Iberian Peninsula.
