Report: Barcelona Will Accept Manchester United Offer For Star

Reports suggest that Barcelona are willing to accept Manchester United's €60 million (R983 million) offer for one of their star midfielders.

The financial constraints the Blaugrana are under have been well-publicised for some time now, and it looks like the situation is not getting any better.

When Joan Laporta was elected back to the Barca presidency, it was assumed he would remedy the precarious financial position the club found themselves in almost immediately.

The Spanish executive told club icon Lionel Messi that renewing his contract was impossible at the beginning of the 2021/22 season, and that he would need to leave the Camp Nou.

Now it seems another one of Barca's star players will need to be let go to generate money for the club.

According to Marca, the €60 million United have offered for Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong would be too good an offer for the Catalan club to turn down.

The same report suggests the Red Devils will put up an extra €20 million (R328 million) in potential add-ons to secure the services of the player.

De Jong worked under new United boss Erik ten Hag when they were both at Ajax Amsterdam, and it is understood the 52-year-old has been in dialogue with the deep-lying playmaker, trying to convince him to come to Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old was initially said to not be keen to leave Spain as it had been his dream to adorn the famous blue and red of Barca, but the latest reports suggest that he is coming round to the idea of playing in England.

Should the deal be successful, it will be the second highest-grossing departure in Barca's history, with top spot belonging to Neymar's world-record transfer fee of €222 million (R3.6 billion) paid by Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.
