According to Marca, Danish striker Martin Braithwaite is considering making a bid to purchase a majority stake in Spanish second division side Espanyol.

This comes after his departure from the club, which followed a message to fans that read: "This is not goodbye for me. Together we have gone for promotion, we have achieved it and now we are going for the club".

The 33-year-old scored 22 goals this past season to help Espanyol win promotion back into LALIGA, but was said to be unhappy with how the club treated him.

Braithwaite, who has signed for Brazilian side Gremio, fell out with the side's owners last year after they reportedly refused to let him leave for a team in the country's top flight.

The Barcelona-based club is owned by Chinese businessman Chen Yansheng, with supporters said to be furious with his and the Rastar Group's management.

Espanyol have suffered two relegations in the last three seasons.

Braithwaite's exit was confirmed last month when he shocked the club by activating his own release clause on the same day he returned to Espanyol's training base for pre-season.
