Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema has written his name into LaLiga's history books after breaking a record held by former FC Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o.

The Frenchman scored a brace in his side's 3-0 win over Valencia, taking his league tally for the 2019/20 campaign to 16 strikes.
In doing so, Benzema did not only help his side to three important points in the LaLiga title race, he also took his overall account in the Spanish top flight to 164 strikes.
His first goal against Los Che saw him break Eto'o's record of 162 goals in LaLiga, while he also climbed to fifth position among the foreign goalscorers in the Spanish league's history.

Lionel Messi reigns at the top of the list after finding the back of the net on 440 occasions, while Cristiano Ronaldo follows in second position with 311 goals. Real legend Hugo Sanchez is third with 234 goals.
Benzema also appears in fifth position among Los Blancos' top scorers in LaLiga, with only Ronaldo, Raul Gonzalez (229 goals), Alfredo Di Stefano (216 goals) and Sanchez (164 goals) having scored more.
The 3-0 victory saw Real close the gap on LaLiga leaders FC Barcelona to just two points, with the Catalan giants back in action on Friday, when they host third-placed Sevilla.
