Copa del Rey Report: FC Barcelona v Sevilla 03 March 2021

Result: FC Barcelona 3-0 Sevilla (3-2 on agg.)

Date: 03 March 2021

Venue: Camp Nou

FC Barcelona advanced to the Copa del Rey final after overturning a two-goal deficit with a 3-0 win against nine-man Sevilla at the Camp Nou.

Barca remained unchanged from the weekend's win over Sevila, who recalled the likes of Tomas Vaclik, Aleix Vidal and Marcos Acuna for the second leg.

With ten minutes gone, Barca worked the ball around really nicely with Sergio Dest, Lionel Messi and Pedri involved and it ended with Sergio Busquets firing straight at the keeper.

Four minutes later, the Blaugrana took the lead. Ousmane Dembele danced one way then another on the edge of the box to create a bit of room for himself and then curled a great shot into the top corner past a motionless Vaclik in goal for Sevilla.

On the half-hour mark, Luuk de Jong almost got on the end of a Sevilla counter then Frenkie de Jong down the other end almost got on the end of a Jordi Alba cross. Then an athletic scissor kick from Alba rattled the crossbar from Dembele's cross.

Sevilla won a penalty in the 72nd minute when Mingueza brought down Ocampos, but Ter Stegen saved Ocampos' spot-kick as he guessed right and Ocampos graciously hit it to his right.

Rojiblancos were reduced to ten men in the second minute of stoppage time when Fernando pulled back Trincao on the edge of the box and received his second yellow card.

And in the fourth minute of stoppage time, Ronald Koeman's side scored a dramatic goal to level the scores and send the game to extra-time. Sevilla failed to clear a corner and Antoine Griezmann whipped in a lovely cross for Gerard Pique to head home.

Barca went 3-0 up and 3-2 ahead on aggregate. Alba crossed from the left and found Martin Braithwaite who got ahead of the defender to head goalwards. Vaclik gots a hand to it but he could not stop the ball from ending up in the back of the net.

Julien Lopetegui's side went down to nine men in the 103rd minute when De Jong was sent off for dissent, denting his side's chances of pulling a goal back.

Soon after, Messi whipped in a cross from the right flank that Pique rose to attack, but Vaclik produced a solid stop to repel his header. That would be the last clear-cut opportunity of the match as Barca progressed to the final.
