Atletico Star Finally Set For A Premier League Move?

Atletico Star Finally Set For A Premier League Move?

Reports suggest that, after many seasons playing under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid, Jan Oblak could finally be switching the Spanish capital for a move to the Premier League.

Report: Real Star Accepts Move To Barcelona

Oblak has been considered among the best goalkeepers on the planet for a while now, having helped Los Rojiblancos come within a penalty shootout of winning the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League final and also assisting them in capturing the 2020/21 LaLiga title.

However, it now seems the Slovenian could be calling time on his tenure in the Spanish capital and making a lucrative move to the English top flight.

According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur are eager on bringing the shot-stopper to north London.

Manager Antonio Conte is reportedly already planning for life after Hugo Lloris, and while the 2018 FIFA World Cup-winning captain is among the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, he is 35 years old and reaching the twilight years of his career.

With Lloris' deal with the Lilywhites expiring in June 2024, Conte reportedly wants to have a successor integrated as soon as possible.

Oblak, 29, is among the highest-paid players in LaLiga, and has a contract running until 2028 that includes a release clause of £107 million (R2 billion), factors that have put off prospective Premier League suitors in the past, but it now seems Simeone and Atletico have softened their stance on one of their star players.

Manchester United are also said to be interested in Oblak, with boss Erik ten Hag reportedly unimpressed with current No. 1 David de Gea, and have asked the Spanish giants to be kept in the loop regarding the Slovenian's availability.
