With Real Madrid star Marco Asensio now in the final 12 months of his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, the attacker has reportedly made a shock decision regarding his club's biggest rivals Barcelona.
Transfer Update: Ousmane Dembele
Asensio's time with Los Blancos could be approaching its end. The 26-year-old was understood to be close to leaving the Spanish capital during the off-season, with the likes of AC Milan, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool all linked with the attacker.
However, with none of those clubs formalising their interest in the Spain international, a new contender has emerged in Barca.
Manager Xavi Hernandez is reportedly a massive admirer of Asensio and would like to integrate the Mallorca native into the fold at the Catalan giants when his contract with Real expires.
In a recent interview, Asensio refused to rule out a move to the five-time European champions, and now, according to RAC1, the Spaniard is said to have already agreed to the switch between the two eternal rivals.
As per the Catalan news outlet, a preliminary agreement has been reached between the forward and the Blaugrana over a four-year deal commencing from July 2023.
Should the transfer go through, Asensio would become one of a few players to play for both bitter rivals, and even fewer who made the direct transition between the two sides.

The winger has fallen down the Real pecking order in recent seasons due to persistent injuries and the emergence of the likes of Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior, and will be eager to re-establish himself as one of the best Spanish talents with a move away from the Bernabeu.
Asensio has played for a team in Barcelona already, namely Espanyol, whom he was sent on loan to in the 2015/16 campaign. While there, the forward had a remarkable output, scoring four goals and providing 15 assists in 37 appearances.
