The South African tactician is currently without a club after parting ways with Wydad Athletic Club before the end of the 2025/26 season. Despite showing promise in Morocco, the 38-year-old Johannesburg native is now eyeing his next challenge in management.

Over the past few months, several clubs have been linked with Mokwena, including MC Alger, Orlando Pirates, and Pyramids FC. However, a new contender has now entered the frame.

According to The Guardian, Tanzanian Premier League champions Young Africans SC are on the hunt for a new head coach following the departure of Miloud Hamdi. The Algerian tactician recently joined Egyptian side Ismaily after guiding Yanga to a record-extending 26th league title.

Following discussions with club president Hersi Said, Mokwena is believed to have emerged as a leading candidate for the vacant post.

The same report, however, notes that there are some concerns over whether the club can afford Mokwena's salary demands. That said, the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach is said to be prioritising stability, long-term vision, and professionalism over financial incentives.

He is not the only candidate in the running, with ASEC Mimosas boss Julien Chevalier also understood to be on the club’s shortlist.

It remains to be seen which direction the Jangwani Street giants will take, but they appear to have narrowed their search to two highly respected coaches in Mokwena and Chevalier.
