The likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and the late Diego Maradona were named in France Football's Ballon d'Or Dream Team, but who failed to make the cut and instead were selected for the second-best XI of all time?

With there being no Ballon d'Or ceremony in 2020, the French publication decided to ask 140 journalist to vote for who they believe is the greatest XI of all time.
The journalists, who hail from all around the world, selected both Messi and Ronaldo for the side, as well as Maradona and Pele. Paolo Maldini and Franz Beckenbauer were named in defence, while Xavi Hernandez was picked in midfield.
A few more legends of the game were chosen for the Dream team, which was announced on Monday, but who was only good enough to make the second-best XI of all time?
In goal, Juventus and Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon was chosen ahead of the likes of Manuel Neuer and Oliver Kahn. Brazil icon Roberto Carlos was also named in the second-best selection, along with his compatriot Carlos Alberto.
Ex-Netherlands international Frank Rijkaard was perhaps a surprise inclusion in defensive midfield, where he was named alongside former AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juve midfielder Andrea Pirlo.
1998 FIFA World Cup winner Zidane was also only good enough to be named in the second-best team in history, alongside former Barcelona playmaker Ronaldinho, who many might feel was unfortunate to miss out on France Football's main Dream Team.
