Jack Grealish Explains What Left Him 'Gutted' After England Debut

New England international Jack Grealish fulfilled a lifelong dream when he made his debut for the Three Lions on Tuesday night, but there was one aspect of the game that left him "gutted".

The 24-year-old can finally consider himself an England international following a brilliant individual 2019/20 Premier League campaign.

Grealish came on as a second-half substitute in the Three Lions' 0-0 draw with Denmark in their UEFA Nations League clash on Tuesday, and went on one of his trademark runs just minutes after entering the pitch.

Speaking afterwards about his first big involvement in the game, he admitted that while he does not have many regrets in his career, he does wish he either went for goal or tried to set up one of his teammates with that run.

"I'll never have much regrets because what's happened happened, but I'm a bit gutted to be honest, because I should have pulled the trigger or picked someone out. It was my first game and I was happy with how I did on my debut," he told Sky Sports.

"It's different. You have more chemistry with everyone (at Villa) because you train with them day in, day out.

"I didn't want to look too selfish and I've tried to cross it instead. It's gone well for me. I have enjoyed every single minute.

"You know the boys by playing against them every week and they've all made me feel welcome. The staff, manager and players have been brilliant."

Grealish also revealed he was quite overwhelmed after the match, and sent a message of thanks to England boss Gareth Southgate.

"It is something that you dream of, every child in England dreams of it since they were a little kid – playing for the England senior team," he added.

"I was so privileged coming on and it was a shame we couldn't win in the end.

"I want to thank (manager) Gareth (Southgate) himself for giving me the opportunity and I hope it is the first of many.

"It was a brilliant moment for me and my family."

Grealish represented Ireland at youth level, before making his debut for England's U21 side in 2016.
