Coach Hugo Broos made 11 changes after the goalless draw against Tanzania, which included a debut for Orlando Pirates defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi who partnered captain Nkosinathi Sibisi in defence.
Bafana made their intensions known early on by dominating possession, while Pirates duo Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohua Nkota managed to test the gloves of Mozambique goalkeeper Ivane Urrubal in the opening 10 minutes.
Mofokeng should have got the breakthrough on 17 minutes after being slipped through on goal by Yanela Mbuthuma's first-time pass, but the Bafana forward was unable to beat Urrubal in a one-on-one situation.
The encounter against Mozambique was starting to mirror the goalless draw against Tanzania, with Broos' charges dominating possession without finding the back of the net but the visitors did have Urrubal to thank for keeping the scores down.
Urrubal ensured the sides went into the break all square after pulling off a stunning one-handed save to keep out Mofokeng's powerful strike on the edge of the area.

However, Bafana got the breakthrough two minutes after the break when Sinoxolo Kwayiba got his first goal for the national side with a towering header from Nkota's corner at the far post.
Mozambique embarked on a rare counter attack just after the hour mark when Macandza broke the down the left flank before sending a cross into the box, where goalkeeper Sipho Chaine rushed off his line to make a vital interception to deny Dayo Antonio a certain goal.
The lead was doubled in the 69th minute when Nkota won the ball high up the pitch and teed up substitute Ashley Cupido, who sent a lovely finish over Urrubal from just outside the area.
Bafana would go on to see out the closing stages, as substitute Renaldo Learner ensured the hosts kept another clean sheet by producing a fine save to keep out Ratifo's header in second-half stoppage time.
