Atalanta have officially crashed out of the UEFA Champions League after their emphatic 3-1 loss to Shandre Campbell's Club Brugge on Tuesday evening.

La Dea had only suffered a 2-1 loss in Belgium during the playoff round's first leg, so many in the football fraternity expected the Italians to turn the encounter around when they returned to Bergamo, but the Black and Blues did not receive the script.

Nicky Hayen's side rushed into a 3-0 lead by half-time, courtesy of a brace from Chemsdine Talbi and a Ferran Jutgla strike just before the break. Returning from injury, Lookman was introduced before the commencement of the second 45 minutes, and less than a minute after coming into the match, the London native scored a goal to make it 3-1 on the night.

Fifteen minutes later, the newly crowned best player in Africa had the chance to double his tally for the night after Juan Cuadrado was fouled in the box, but Lookman had his spot-kick saved by Simon Mignolet, and the Serie A outfit were subsequently unable to turn the tie around.

After the match, Lookman's manager did not mince his words, claiming that the Super Eagles star was not supposed to take the penalty and that he is one of the worst penalty takers he has ever seen.

"Lookman was not supposed to take that penalty, he is one of the worst penalty takers I've ever seen," the Italian tactician told members of the media, as per Goal.

"He has a frankly terrible record even in training, he converts very few of them. Retegui and De Ketelaere were there, but Lookman, in a moment of enthusiasm after scoring, decided to take the ball and that was a gesture I did not appreciate at all."
