The Confederation of African Football has confirmed that it has organised a new host nation for the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations after Ivory Coast pulled out at the last minute.

Earlier this week, news broke that Ivory Coast was pulling out of hosting the youth continental showpiece a month before it was set to commence. It is alleged that issues concerning logistics and a lack of funding led to the Ivorian government pulling the plug on welcoming Africa's best young sides.
The situation left CAF scrambling to find a new host nation, with the competition set to begin in a month's time. Rumours emerged that African football's governing body had called on Egypt to step in at the crucial time to save the situation, and now it has been confirmed that the North African nation has complied.
In an official statement released by the Cairo-headquartered institution, CAF said:
"The Confédération Africaine de Football ("CAF") today awarded the Egyptian Football Association ("EFA") and Egyptian Government the rights to host the TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025.
"This is subsequent to CAF having been informed by the Fédération Ivoirienne de Football ("FIF") and the Government of Côte d'Ivoire that due to unforeseen circumstances, they are unable to host the TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025.
"The Egyptian Football Association and the Egyptian Government had previously submitted a bid to host the TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025.

"The opening match of the TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025 will be played on Sunday, 27 April 2025 and the Final on 18 May 2025."
