Official: England's World Cup Squad Announced!

Gareth Southgate has named his 26-man England squad ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, with a high-profile Manchester United star being overlooked.

Official: Deschamps Announces France's World Cup Squad

On Thursday afternoon, the English tactician announced which players will be representing the Three Lions in the Middle East.

United No. 10 Marcus Rashford has returned to the fold for the first time since his appearance in the final of last year's UEFA European Championship, while his club colleague Jadon Sancho has been left out.

Southgate also chose to overlook AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori and Brentford's in-form striker Ivan Toney, though a spot did go to Leicester City midfielder James Maddison, whose first and only appearance for England came in 2019.

The 25-year-old has put in impressive displays at club level over the last 12 months, making him difficult to ignore for Southgate as the head coach prepares to mount strong challenge in Qatar.

Unsurprisingly, experienced internationals Jordan Pickford, Harry Maguire, Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane have been selected.

Full squad:

England were drawn in Group B alongside Iran, United States of America and Wales.
