Official: Cameroon Star Calls Time On Int. Career After WC Fallout

Andre Onana

After falling out with his national team during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, a Cameroon star has now decided to call time on his career with the Indomitable Lions.

Ronaldo 'To Commit' To SEVEN-Year Deal With New Team

Andre Onana has decided to end his playing career with the west African giants.

The 26-year-old shot-stopper was left out of Cameroon's final two group-stage encounters at the World Cup, against Serbia and Brazil.

The 35-time capped Cameroonian was said to be dropped from the squad for those games after clashing with head coach Rigobert Song over disciplinary issues.

Reports suggested that the pair had an argument over Onana's goalkeeping style as Song wanted the Inter Milan man to be more traditional in the way he played.

Now, Onana's six-year tenure with the five-time Africa Cup of Nations winners has come to an end after he released a statement confirming his international retirement.

"After endless hours of training, endless trips and a lot perseverance, I can proudly say that I have fulfilled my great dream," the former Ajax Amsterdam man's statement read.

"But every story, however beautiful it may be, has to end. And my story with the Cameroonian national team has come to an end.

"Players come and go, names are fleeting, but Cameroon comes before any person or player.

"Cameroon remains eternal and so does my love for the national team and for our people who have always supported us.

"My feeling will never change. My Cameroonian heart will continue to beat and wherever I go I will always fight to lift the flag of Cameroon as high as possible."
