Kenya's hopes of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in history have been dealt a major blow as the nation now faces expulsion from the 2022 edition of football's showpiece tournament.
According to the BBC, the FKF have been informed by FIFA that if the payment is not made, the Kenya national football team will face expulsion from the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, effectively ending the nation's hopes of taking part in the tournament.
The FKF reportedly requested an extension on the period to make payment in light of the coronavirus, but were informed that such a deferral could only take place with Amrouche's consent, which the 52-year-old has reportedly refused to grant.
"It is not the end of the world to be out of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers," FKF president Nick Mwendwa said.
"We don't have money and with the COVID-19 situation, we have players who are stuck right now who haven't been paid salaries. It's been deaf ears from the government – which is understandable because there is a crisis."
