Official: Sundowns Receive R173 Million Boost

Teams competing in the global showpiece will be vying for $125 million (R2.2 billion) once the tournament rolls around in June, as per an official statement released by world football's governing body.

The total participation money pool for clubs playing in the competition is $525 million (R9.5 billion), and from this money, clubs will receive funds just for their inclusion. Teams from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) — Sundowns, Al Ahly, Esperance de Tunis, and Wydad Athletic — will be given $9.55 million (R173 million) each. 

Included will also be a $475 million (R8.6 billion) prize pot which will be distributed to clubs according to their sporting achivements at the Club World Cup and how far they get. 

The winners of the tournament could earn up to $125 million (R22.8 billion).

The breakdown of finances is based on sporting performance is:

Group Stage: $2 million (R36.4 million) per win and $1 million (R18.2 million) per draw.

Round of 16 qualification: $7.5 million (R136.6 million)

Quarter-Final: $13 million (R236.9 million)

Semi-Final: $21 million (R382.6 million)

Finalist: $30 million (R546.7 million)

Winner: $40 million (R728.9 million)
