The tournament kicks off on 4 February, when hosts Al-Duhail – winners of the Qatar Stars League – will face CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly, coached by former Mamelodi Sundowns boss Mosimane.

Overall, six teams are participating in the tournament this year after Auckland City, the representatives of the Oceanian Football Confederation, withdrew due to COVID-19 regulations making it impossible for them to travel.

Bayern Munich (Europe), Ulsan Hyundai (Asia), UNAL Tigres (Middle North America) as well as the winners between Palmeiras and Santos (South America, game to be played on 30 January) are the other teams taking part in the tournament in Qatar.

Less than two years ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar will want to show they are ready to host the global showpiece, and the local organising committee has selected two venues for the Club World Cup.

The Ahmad Bin Ali and Education City stadiums will host the tournament, with the latter being allocated three games and the former four, including the final.

The two venues are in close proximity and can host 40 000 spectators. Qatari authorities, though, announced recently that only a limited number of fans will be allowed in for the games, with 30% of the stadiums' capacities being opened up.
