It has been reported that prosecutors have asked for former Barcelona right-back Dani Alves, who is accused of sexual assault, to be handed the "maximum possible prison sentence".

The ex-Brazil international was in court this week after being accused of raping a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022.
Alves, considered one of the best players of all time in his position, has denied the allegations and told his version of events to a Spanish court on Wednesday.
According to Sport, prosecutors working on the case have asked for the 40-year-old to be given the harshest punishment possible for the crime he stands accused of, which is believed to be 12 years.
The footballer, who last played in Mexico for UNAM Pumas, has been behind bars for the past year after a judge repeatedly denied him bail due to him being a flight risk.
His lawyer, Ines Guardiola, told the court earlier this week that her client is currently €17 000 (R347 000) in debt and that he has had other assets frozen too.
Alves began his professional career at EC Bahia in Brazil before joining Sevilla, but his profile grew significantly following his 2008 move to the Blaugrana, with whom he won the UEFA Champions League three times.

He then had spells at Juventus in Italy and Paris Saint-Germain in France, before returning to Brazil with Sao Paulo in 2019. Alves headed back to Europe when Barcelona re-signed him in 2021, before he made the switch to Mexico.
