For the better part of a decade, Carles Puyol embodied what it meant to be a Barcelona player, but the 2010 Fifa World Cup winner has now revealed that he could have played for Real.

"Real Madrid appointed (Jose Antonio) Camacho as their new coach and he wanted me and Ronaldinho," Puyol told Spain's TV3, as per Marca.

The former Barca captain went on to reveal that Los Blancos had also tried to sign him three years before, but he never considered moving to his club's arch-enemies.

"They tried to sign me on those two occasions, but I was at the best club in the world and wanted to win titles there. So I stayed," he added.

Puyol ultimately spent his entire career with Barcelona, for whom he made 593 appearances and won no fewer than 18 major honours.
