The 17-year-old has been integral to Barcelona's success this season as the club stormed to a domestic treble, winning La Liga, Copa Del Rey, and the Supercopa De Espana.

According to Barca Blaugranes, journalist Vicor Navarro reported that Yamal's agent, Jorge Mendes, allegedly asked the club to make the La Masia academy product the highest-paid player at the club.

Mendes argued that Yamal deserves the biggest pay at the club as he creates the most chances and offers something different.

He added that it would also help the club financially once Yamal takes the number 10 shirt next season.

Cadena SER reported that Barcelona President, Joan Laporta, will make Yamal's deal the club's number one priority.

The Catalan club has a pre-agreement with the teenager that was signed when he was 16 years old, which will be made official when he turns 18 on 13 July.

Mendes is reportedly set to start negotiations with the club soon to make the number 19 the highest-paid player.

The club acknowledged that Yamal was one of the leaders of the new project and should be placed at the top of the salary bracket.

Barca's highest-paid player currently is Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, who reportedly earns 26 million a year (R527 489 160).

According to ESPN, Laporta said the negotiation with Yamal and Mendes would 'end well' and the club was willing to give him special treatment.

"It will end well. He's grown up here, he's Catalan and he's a Barça fan," Laporta said. "He's happy in Barcelona and is destined to be the best player in the world."

He added: "The club has to give him special treatment. We have to unite the club's interests with Lamine's. Let's hope there's understanding on both sides."
