Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo bagged a brace as Manchester United advanced to the FA Cup quarter-finals with a 3-0 win over Wayne Rooney's Derby County.

Rooney started for the Rams against his former side while Odion Ighalo was handed his second start for the Red Devils in place of Anthony Martial.

The first real opening fell to the home side after 11 minutes when Sibley charged towards the United box before seeing his effort from distance sail wide while Rooney had a free-kick saved by Sergio Romero moments later.

After Juan Mata was denied after 28 minutes, the Red Devils eventually got the breakthrough five minutes later as Luke Shaw opened his account for the season with a deflected effort.

The lead was doubled five minutes before the break as Shaw turned provider to pick out Ighalo, who shrugged off a Derby defender before slotting into the bottom corner.

The hosts nearly pulled a goal back shortly after the halftime break after a swift counter attack ended with Martyn Waghorn heading inches wide of Romero's upright.

However, it was United who got the next goal in the 70th minute as Ighalo completed his brace with a powerful finish from 12-yards out after his initial effort was saved on the line.

There were a couple more openings for the Red Devils as the second half continued but Jesse Lingard and Mata were unable to find the back in the 18-yard area.

Rooney nearly bagged a consolation in second-half stoppage time but his curling free-kick was turned away by Romero as United held on for the 3-0 win.

ole gunnar solskjaer's charges will now lock horns Norwich City in the last eight after the Canaries eliminated Tottenham Hotspur via the penalty shoot-out.
