Manchester United have been crowned FA Cup champions after defeating cross-town rivals Manchester City 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

FA Cup Final

Result: Manchester City 1-2 Manchester United

Date: 25 May 2024

Venue: Wembley Stadium

Erik ten Hag handed starts to Marcus Rashford, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, as Casemiro was not named on the bench and Rasmus Hojlund was among the substitutes despite his late season form.

Pep Guardiola charges dominated proceedings in the early stages of the first half, but were unable to carve out any clear-cut openings.

The Red Devils were gifted the opening goal in the 30th minute when Alejandro Garnacho pounced a mix-up in the City defence and went on to slot home with the easiest of tap ins.

The lead was doubled nine minutes later, as a well-worked passing move ended with Bruno Fernandes delightfully picking out Kobbie Mainoo who calmly slotted past Stefan Ortega.

City nearly pulled themselves level ten minutes into the second half when the ball fell kindly to Erling Haaland, who sent his first-time strike against the woodwork.

Guardiola made a surprising change thereafter as Kevin de Bruyne, who had a quiet afternoon, made way for striker Julian Alvarez for the final 30 minutes in the second half.

The Red Devils were dealt a blow with 15 minutes to play, as Martinez's afternoon came to an end as Jonny Evans was brought on as his replacement, while Rashford made way for Hojlund.

City did manage to pull a goal back with four minutes left on the clock as Jeremy Doku cut inside and rifled one in at Andre Onana's near post.

The Citizens threw everything forward in search of an equalising goal, but the Red Devils defended with 11 men behind the ball and held out to claim their 13th FA Cup title.
