Bafana Bafana international Lyle Foster earned a start after scoring his first goals for the Championship club last weekend.
Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, went for a strong side once again as World Cup winner Julian Alvarez joined Erling Haaland in the attack, while Ortega Moreno replaced by Ederson between the sticks.
The Citizens dominated from the onset but it was the visitors who had the first real opening at goal as Nathan Tella collected a pass from Zaroury before forcing Ortega into a fine save.
The hosts did go on to grab the opening goal in the 32nd minute when Alvarez turned provider to send Haaland through on goal, with the Norwegian rounding goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell to slot into an empty net.
The lead was doubled three minutes later, as Phil Foden broke free down the left flank before picking out Haaland, who slotted past Peacock-Farrell with a simple finish to complete his brace.
Burnley did have a chance to pull one back just before the break, but Ortega produced a fine save to keep out Anass Zaroury's stinging effort from close range.
Coach Vincent Kompany made a double change at the start of the second half, as Foster and Johan Gudmundsson's evening came to an end as they were replaced by Ashley Barnes and Jack Cork.
The Citizens carried their momentum into the second half as Haaland completed his second hat-trick this week just before the hour mark with another simple finish after Foden had struck the upright.
While that was Haaland's last involvement, the fourth goal arrived on 62nd minute as Kevin De Bruyne latched onto a pass from Riyahd Mahrez before cutting the ball back for Alvarez to slot home.
The Citizens showed no signs of slowing down as substitute Cole Palmer added his name oto the score ten minutes later with a first-time finish into an empty net after some Peacock-Farrell kept out Foden's initial strike.
The seventh goal arrived with 17 minutes left on the clock as De Bruyne picked out Alvarez with a sublime pass, before the Argentine rifled the ball beyond Peacock-Farrell to complete his brace.
