Record-Breaking Spain Secure EURO Title

Spain have clinched the 2024 European Championship title after defeating England 2-1 in the final on Sunday night.

EURO 2024 Final

Result: Spain 2-1 England

Date: 14 July 2024

Venue: Olympiastadion Berlin

The Three Lions made one change at left-back as Luke Shaw replaced Keiran Trippier, while Spain had Dani Carvajal and  Robin Le Normand back from suspension.

There was also history on the night as Lamine Yamal become the youngster player to compete in a major final at the age of 17 years and one day.

La Roja dominated possession in the early parts of the first half although the England managed to keep Yamal and Williams quiet as goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was barely tested.

England, meanwhile, were quite deep for most of the stanza and they found it tough to hold on to possession whenever they did win the ball back, with the likes of Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham cutting frustrating figures.

For all the attacking talent on the pitch, the game's first effort on target arrive on the stroke of halftime when Declan Rice's free-kick found Foden, who saw his first-time volley saved by Unai Simon.

Spain were dealt a blow at the start of the second half as Rodri was unable to continue and was replaced by Martín Zubimendi in the middle of the park.

However, La Roja only needed two minutes to get the breakthrough as Yamal's pass ends up with Nico Williams, who sent a fine first-time finish into the far corner for his second goal of the tournament.

Southgate responded with a surprise change on the hour mark as the ineffective Harry Kane made way Ollie Watkins, who scored the winner in the semi-final against the Netherlands.

However, it was another change that made the difference as Cole Palmer, who replaced Kobbie Mainoo, latched onto Bellingham's lay-off and calmly slotted into the far corner from around 20 yards out.

With the game heading for extra-time, Spain popped up with the winning goal in the final four minutes when Mikel Oyarzabal turned home Marc Cucureall's wonderful cross to seal the title for spot.

Spain have now won the tournament for a record fourth time, one more than Germany.
