Man Utd To Break Club-Record Transfer Fee?

Man Utd To Break Club-Record Transfer Fee?

Manchester United could reportedly break their club-record transfer fee on Benfica teenager Joao Neves.

Manchester United could reportedly break their club-record transfer fee on one of football's hottest teenage prospects.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for 19-year-old Portuguese starlet Joao Neves, who plays for Benfica in the Primeira Liga.

Reports in recent months have suggested that the teenager could be an option for United amid his strong performances in midfield this season.

Capped five times already for Portugal's senior side and having made 67 appearances for Benfica's first team, Neves is considered among the best up-and-coming talents in Europe.

According to Portuguese publication Record new United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has identified that changes are required in midfield, with a number of players underperforming in that area.

Mason Mount has missed the majority of the campaign through injury, while Casemiro has struggled to replicate last season's form this term.

The Red Devils' standout player in the middle of the park has been 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo, who is still inexperienced in men's football.

It is said Ratcliffe is prepared to part ways with as much as €100 million (R2 billion) to sign Neves, with it believed the total package could surpass the €105 million (R2.1 billion) fee spent by United to sign Paul Pogba in 2016.
