The Portuguese tactician was relieved of his duties as Spurs boss after a string of poor results and performances from the Lilywhites.
In a statement on the club's website, chairman Daniel Levy stated that he regretted that things had not worked out for both parties, while there were rumours suggesting that Mourinho might have had a fallout with Spurs due to their ties to the European Super League.
That, however, was reportedly not the case, with Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano stating that the ex-Manchester United and Chelsea manager was fired for sporting reasons.
Late on Monday, reporters caught up with Mourinho, who appeared in good spirits as he said, "You know me. I'm not going to say anything," according to Goal, when asked if he felt he was unfairly treated by the club.
The 58-year-old was also asked if he was going to spend some time away from football, to which he responded by saying: "No need, no need for breaks or recharged batteries. I'm always in football."
It was claimed on the weekend that the north London club was considering parting ways with Mourinho ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, and many were surprised as their decision to fire him came a week before Spurs' Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
