The Spaniard has signed a new two-year deal with the Citizens, the club announced on Thursday.

So far, he has lifted eight trophies since joining the Premier League side, but is still chasing his second UEFA Champions League title.

"We have achieved a great deal together, scored goals, won games and trophies, and we are all very proud of that success," Guardiola told the club's official website.

"The challenge for us is to continue improving and evolving, and I am very excited about helping Manchester City do that."

Overall, Guardiola has lifted 29 pieces of silverware since beginning his managerial career at FC Barcelona in 2008 – 14 with the Blaugrana, seven with Bayern Munich and eight with City.

That is more than his longstanding rival Jose Mourinho, who has celebrated 25 titles, but three managers in European football history are still ahead of Guardiola.
