The Highest-Paid Manchester United Stars After Luke Shaw's Extension

Last season, Luke Shaw seemed to have a foot out the exit door at Manchester United, but he has now reportedly become one of the club's highest-paid players after signing a new five-year deal. Here is how his new wage compares to the Red Devils' other top earners.

The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at the club until June 2023.

Shaw did not always have the easiest of relationships with club boss Jose Mourinho, who has, at times, criticised him in public, but the England international battled through and has now received some special words of praise from his manager.

"Luke fully deserves this contract," Mourinho told the club's official website.

"He understood his development process, he has worked really hard at every level and he always believes in himself, which is a great attribute to have.

"Luke is still young and is improving all the time, and he must feel very proud of himself. I am delighted that we are keeping such a talented young English player with a bright future ahead of him."

According to the Daily Mirror, the left-back now pockets £195 000 (R3.65 million) a week, making him the fifth highest-paid player at Old Trafford.

Only David de Gea, Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez are believed to earn more than Shaw now, with the Chilean receiving a league-high £450 000 (R8.44 million) a week.
