On Tuesday night, the Merseyside club officially unveiled the signing of 22-year-old Uruguay international Darwin Nunez, who has joined the club from Benfica for an initial fee of €75 million (R1.2 billion).
The deal could rise by €25 million (R419 million) in add-ons, although that will depend on whether certain individual and collective achievements are reached over the course of his six-year contract in England.
According to The Times journalist Paul Joyce, Liverpool will pay the ex-Almeria striker about €50 million (R835 million) in wages on his current deal, meaning Nunez is expected to earn around €160 000 (R2.6 million) every week.
This weekly salary will see the forward rank below the likes of goalkeeper Alisson, Fabinho, Roberto Firmino and Alexander-Arnold, although he immediately places higher than wantaway forward Sadio Mane.
Surprisingly, the 30-year-old is not even among the club's 11 biggest earners, with the Bayern Munich-linked winger said to be pushing for an exit in this transfer window so as to enter a higher pay bracket elsewhere.
