English statistics and football money expert Nick Harris, who is also the editor of Sporting Intelligence, recently drew up an overview of the most successful English clubs when it comes to lifting "major trophies".
He defines "major trophies" as league titles, the two main cups in England and titles won in European competitions, excluding super cups.
For example, City have lifted four Premier League trophies, five FA Cups, one European Cup Winners' Cup and recently added their fifth English League Cup (or the Carabao Cup, as it is known this season).
That's 15 pieces of major silverware in City's trophy cabinet, which sees them climb to seventh spot among the most successful clubs in England, equalling Everton's trophy haul.
However, despite their latest addition, Pep Guardiola's side is still a massive 27 titles behind rivals United, who are the most successful club in English history.
The Red Devils have claimed 42 major titles – one more than second-placed Liverpool. United have collected 20 Premier League trophies, 12 FA Cups, five League Cups, three European Cups (or UEFA Champions League trophies, as the competition is known today), and two other major European cups, namely the European Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Europa League trophy.

Harris did not consider domestic or European super cups, such as the FA Community Shield and the UEFA Super Cup, nor the FIFA Club World Cup as "major trophies".
