On Monday night, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi has turned down an approach from the Reds.
The highly-rated 25-year-old was said to be Liverpool's main target for the defensive midfield role, but has ultimately decided to stay at his boyhood club following discussions.
It is claimed the Spain international, who represented his country at the 2024 UEFA European Championship, rejected the Reds' proposal due to his loyalty to Sociedad.
Zubimendi reportedly received a significant offer from the six-time UEFA Champions League winners, and is now likely to pen an extension in Spain on lower terms than the Reds offered.
A San Sebastian native, Zubimendi joined Sociedad's youth ranks in 2011 and has since made 188 appearances for the club's senior team.
