It has been rumoured that the Portuguese tactician, who took over from Louis van Gaal, has identified Borussia Dortmund's Henrikh Mkhitaryan as his new attacking midfielder.
The 27-year-old has one year left on his Dortmund contract, but widespread reports suggest that United have agreed a £26.3 million (R531 million) fee with the German club.
Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has revealed that Mkhitaryan's future will be decided before 4 July, when the club's pre-season starts.
"We will assess his situation this week," he said, as quoted by Kicker.
"We not only need to discuss it with (sporting director) Michael Zorc and (coach) Thomas Tuchel, but also with the bodies. It is a difficult decision."
The Armenia international scored 23 goals and assisted a further 32 strikes in 52 matches for Dortmund in the 2015/16 campaign.

He joined the German club from Shakhtar Donetsk for €27.5 million (R460 million) in 2013, and would be Mourinho's second signing at Old Trafford – the new boss signed centre-back Eric Bailly for the club earlier this month.
