According to A Bola, the Gunners are ready to splash some major cash to reinforce their striker position by signing Swedish forward Viktor Gyokeres.
The 27-year-old has been in supreme form for Sporting CP since arriving in Portugal at the start of last season, and now the north Londoners want to bring the Stockholm native back to English football.
It has been alleged that Mikel Arteta’s preferred target is actually Gyokeres’ international teammate Alexander Isak, but with Newcastle United likely to demand an exorbitant fee for their talisman, the arrival of new Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has prompted the English juggernauts to shift their attention to landing the Sporting hitman instead.
The same report claims that despite more lucrative interest from Chelsea, the prolific marksman has been sold on Arsenal’s project and is open to accepting the mooted €8.3 million (R170 million) salary they have offered him.
The club are looking to equip Arteta with the necessary firepower to finally win the Premier League — a trophy that has eluded the club since the 2003/04 season.

However, it is understood that any deal which would see the Scandinavian move from the Estadio Jose Alvalade will only happen after 26 May, once the Liga Portugal season concludes and the Taça de Portugal final has been played. Gyokeres’ focus is said to be on winning these trophies, as well as the European Golden Boot.
