According to shocking new reports, a Premier League footballer was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of rape and kidnapping.
According to the Daily Mail, the unnamed player was taken into custody at his home on Wednesday morning, but has since been released while an investigation takes place.
The English publication has claimed it is aware who the player is, but cannot name him yet for legal reasons, with the incident reportedly having taken place at his home last month.
Police have issued a statement confirming a player had been arrested "on suspicion of rape and false imprisonment".
"He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries," the statement read.
