Mauricio Pochettino went with the same side that started the big win over West Ham United, while Forest recalled Moussa Niakhate in place of Anthony Elanga.The Blues got off to the perfect start when they opened the scoring after eight minutes as Cole Palmer turned provider to play in Mikhail Mudryk, who took one touch before curling one into the far corner.
Forest weren't behind for too long after restoring parity eight minutes later, as Boly rose above his marker to nod home a free-kick from Morgan Gibbs-White.
The visiting side nearly restored their advantage ten minutes before the interval when Nicolas Jackson collected a pass from Palmer, but the Senegalese saw his strike palmed away by Matz Sels.
After a lively first half, the home side went close to taking the lead seven minutes after the break when Ryan Yates was time unleash a strike that struck the upright.
Forest were more dominant after that and eventually took the lead in the 74th minute as former Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi cut inside and curled a fine strike into the far corner.
Chelsea, however, hit back in the 80th minute in similar fashion to Hudson-Odoi's goal, as substitute Raheem Sterling cut in from the left and sent a curling strike beyond Selzs.
The visitors completed the turnaround two minutes later when the returning Reece James made an immediate impact by crossing for Jackson, who sent a darting header into the back of the net.
