Vintage Man City Thrash Palace In 7-Goal Thriller

Manchester City

Manchester City got back to winning ways in the Premier League with a 5-2 thrashing of Crystal Palace at the Etihad on Saturday.

Premier League

Result: Manchester City 5-2 Crystal Palace

Date: 12 April 2025

Venue: Etihad Stadium

The hosts got off to a poor start as Palace took lead after just seven minutes when Ismaïla Sarr broke free down the right before picking out Eberechi Eze, who tapped home his third goal of the season.

The lead was doubled on 20 minutes as Chris Richards rises above Ruben Dias and nodded home a corner from Adam Wharton for his first league goal of the season.

After Palace had a potential third goal disallowed for offside, City did pull one back in the 32nd minute when captain Kevin de Bruyne curled home a lovely free-kick from around 25 yards out.

The comeback was complete four minutes later when Ilkay Gunodgan deflected De Bruyne's knockdown into the path of Omar Marmoush, who sent a first-time finish into the back of the net.

Pep Guardiola's side carried that momentum into the second half and took the lead two minutes in when Nico O'Reilly played in De Bruyne, who teed up Mateo Kovacic to rifle into the bottom corner.

Despite the strongly early showing, Palace had seemingly fallen apart and conceded a fourth goal just before the hour when goalkeeper Ederson grabbed an assist by playing a long ball for James McAtee, who skipped the Dean Henderson before slotting into an empty net.

McAtee was not the only City graduate to get on the score-sheet as O'Reilly grabbed the home side's fifth goal in the final ten minutes with a deflected volley to round off an emphatic afternoon.
