Liverpool returned to winning ways in the Premier League after a resounding 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.

Premier League

Result: Liverpool 4-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Date: 05 May 2024

Venue: Anfield

After clashing with Jurgen Klopp prior to coming on against West Ham United, Mohamed Salah was drafted into the Liverpool line-up, as the only change from the 2-2. The Egyptian forward joined Brahim Diaz and Cody Gakpo in a front three.

Spurs, similarly, also made only one change from their defeat against Chelsea, as Rodrigo Bentancur took the place of Richarlison.

The Reds had a fantastic start after Salah gave them the lead on 16 minutes with a header at the back post after a cross by Gakpo.

Spurs looked to respond but they were caught on a break five minutes later after Diaz went through on goal but the Colombian was denied by goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario in a one-on-one.

Ange Postecoglu's charges struggled to get out of their own half and were 2-0 down on the brink of half-time after Andrew Robertson finished off a rebound from a save by Vicario, who could not hold into Salah's shot.

Klopp's men started the second stanza on a high note as five minutes from the break Gakpo put them out of sight with a header from a cross by Harvey Elliott.

It was becoming a one-way traffic for Liverpool, as on the hour-mark Elliott made it 4-0 with a spectacular curling shot from the edge if the box into the top corner.

Spurs started to come to life only after that and with 18 minutes remaining, Richarlison pulled a goal back shortly after coming on, with a tap-in, from a cross by Brennan Johnson.

As Liverpool took their foot off the pedal, with 13 minutes to go, Heung-Min Son pulled another goal back for the visitors with a strike in the box after getting past a couple of challenges.

With end to end attacks, Salah had a big chance in the dying minutes for Liverpool unmarked in the box but miskicked his shot wide.

Spurs threatened in the tail end too they were too exposed as Darwin Nunez also could not convert a one-on-one chance for the Reds after he was denied by Vicario.
